Repair the Moon claims
Choose a claim to repair. Use the still model to explain your correction.
A model helps explain an idea. It does not measure real planetary motion or prove an observation. Label any given numbers as reference values.

Discuss, point, draw, write or dictate a first explanation. Choose one example first; extend only if there is time.
Reveal a worked explanation after an attempt
The Moon reflects sunlight. It remains round; the amount of its sunlit half visible from Earth changes. It can sometimes be seen during the day. No solar observation is required for this lesson.
Give a smaller support cue
Point to the lit part that the observer can see. Finish “We see … because …”.

Draw three equal circles showing new, half and full Moon views. Explain why the lit part we can see changes.

The three circles remain the same shape. Shade almost all for new, half for the half-Moon view and none for full. As the Moon orbits Earth, our viewing angle changes, so we see different amounts of the sunlit half.
