PUPIL WORKSHEET

Food-jobs evidence mission

Autumn 1 · Week 5 · Lesson B

Name: ____________________________ Date: __________________

Use food information to revise fictional menu models, explaining nutrient jobs and why one food cannot meet every need.

Use this sheet with the lesson. You may point, sign, speak, draw, write, dictate or direct an adult. Keep your first idea so you can show what changed.

1. Read the evidence

Use this reference; do not guess from a food’s colour or label it good/bad.

Food cardSome useful evidence
Bread or potatoStarchy carbohydrate gives energy; these foods supply other nutrients too.
Beans or lentilsProtein supports growth/repair; also carbohydrate and fibre.
Carrot or appleFruit/vegetables supply differing vitamins, minerals and fibre.
WaterHelps transport and temperature control; no food energy.

PUPIL TASK / Autumn 1 · Week 5 · Lesson B

2. Improve the bread-and-water model

Write, draw, point or dictate as agreed with your teacher.

Keep bread and water. Add cards to show a wider range of food jobs. Choose from beans, lentils, carrot and apple.

My added cards: ___.

The first addition helps because ___.

The second addition helps because ___.

One need this simple model cannot fully show: ___.

PUPIL TASK / Autumn 1 · Week 5 · Lesson B

3. Make the second model meat-free

Write, draw, point or dictate as agreed with your teacher.

Original fictional case: meat, rice and vegetables. Keep rice/vegetables and replace the protein-source card.

PUPIL TASK / Autumn 1 · Week 5 · Lesson B

4. Revise and explain

Write, draw, point or dictate as agreed with your teacher.

Check a choice against the information table. Keep your first version.

My first choice or reason: ___.

My improved choice or reason: ___.

The evidence that helped: ___.

Exit: why do bodies need a range of nutrients?

Choose a response route

Agree one route with your teacher; you do not need every route.

Supported

Choose two cards with adult-read evidence and point to a reason; direct one revision.

Standard

Build both fictional cases and explain two food jobs and a revision.

Stretch

Compare alternatives and explain why one food or one model cannot cover every need.

Next: the current Week 6 lesson.

BUILD Science Autumn1 W5 Cards and Labels

PRINTABLE CARDS / WEEK 5

Food-job labels

Cut along the table lines, or point to a card without cutting.

Use fictional menus and paper cards. No tasting, real feeding, calorie/weight discussion or personal dietary disclosure. One food may supply several nutrients.
