ASDAN Personal Effectiveness Qualifications: Qualification specification · v1.3 · December 2025

Operational from 2026-01-01; source status checked 2026-08-28. Official specification URL: https://www.asdan.org.uk/media/yyjhwdgn/asdan-peq-specification-v13-december2025.pdf · Official PEQ course URL: https://www.asdan.org.uk/courses/personal-effectiveness-qualifications/. These optional staff links are non-load-bearing; the pack remains usable offline.

Recheck the live ASDAN PEQ course page, the current specification, the current unit assessment booklet, and the centre-approved assessment plan before any assessed use.

The centre must select the qualification level and size through initial assessment and register the learner before any assessment takes place. BUILD is a local pathway label, not an ASDAN qualification level.

Achievement requires centre assessment, signed and dated assessment records, sufficient and effective IQA, and successful ASDAN EQA.

BUILD is the centre's pathway label. It does not assign an ASDAN PEQ level; the learner's registered level and size are determined through initial assessment.

Qualification-status wording

Qualification status: This lesson is a teaching and evidence-generation resource. It does not itself award or certify an ASDAN Personal Effectiveness Qualification. Where the centre has selected and registered the learner for [unit title and code], learner-generated work may be considered as evidence against [criterion references]. Achievement depends on authentic, valid, current and sufficient portfolio evidence, assessor judgement, IQA and ASDAN external quality assurance.

This activity may contribute to the non-regulated ASDAN [title] Short Course through the centre's current registration and moderation route. Short Course hours or certificates are not PEQ credits. The work may support PEQ only where current PEQ standards are met in full and the required assessment, IQA and EQA processes are completed.

This lesson is a teaching and evidence-generation resource. It does not itself award or certify an ASDAN Personal Effectiveness Qualification, unit, criterion or credit. This is not self-certification. If the centre uses pupil-generated work as potential evidence, an authorised assessor must consider authentic, valid, current and sufficient evidence through the centre’s approved assessment and quality-assurance process. Verify the current module or challenge code, registration, assessment criteria, centre approval and certification status locally.

BUILD learning design

SEE

Notice one concrete example, rule, need or risk.

CHOOSE

Make a genuine bounded choice from safe options.

SAY

Give a reason through the learner’s available communication route.

DO

Complete an observable action or product, then review it.

Prompt-fade ladder: wait → self-prompt → point/visual → general verbal → specific verbal → model → direct support → fade.

Evidence test: pupil decision + observable action/product + pupil meaning/review + honest adult-support record.

Time and credit boundary

At one 40-minute lesson per week, a six-week sequence provides four hours and cannot by itself evidence any criterion requiring at least 10 hours of plan use.

Create the learner's plan before plan-use activity begins. Log genuine learner activity with dates, durations, evidence IDs, and assessor verification. Only actual plan use counts; do not pad a log or count unrelated teaching time.

Entry 3 units named by the current compliance source as having a 10-hour plan-use gate: DecMkSkE3, LSkE3, TmWkSkE3, ThSkE3, WellbLeE3. The six lessons in one lane total four scheduled hours; scheduled pack duration is not individual learner evidence.

Authentic, valid, current, sufficient and traceable evidence

authentic

Is this demonstrably the learner's own work, words, decisions, or actions?

Pass: Provenance is clear; staff and technology record or enable the learner's response without supplying it; prompts and support are documented.

valid

Does the evidence directly demonstrate the named assessment criterion at its command verb, level, numerical minimum, and activity condition?

Pass: The evidence is criterion-specific and the activity allows a reliable assessment judgement.

current

Does the evidence represent the learner's current competence?

Pass: Evidence comes from the current assessment window or is admitted through the centre's formal RPL process.

sufficient

Is there enough explicit evidence to cover every element and minimum of each claimed criterion?

Pass: Evidence breadth, quantity, and detail allow a defensible assessor, IQA, and EQA decision.

reliable and traceable

Can assessor, IQA, and EQA locate the evidence and reach a defensible decision?

Pass: Each item has a criterion reference, evidence ID/location, date, learner attribution, and relevant support/observation record.

Record what the learner actually did or said. Do not infer competence or write a model response on the learner's behalf. The observation record may contribute evidence but does not confer criterion, unit, or qualification achievement by itself.

Assessment-plan field checklist

Gate: Centre-devised assessment materials must complete pre-delivery IQA before assessed use.

Observation-record field checklist

Use neutral prompts only and record them. Completed assessment records must be signed and dated by the learner and assessor and, where sampled, the IQA.

Access without lowering demand

The access method may change; the assessment standard must not. Record all support and reasonable adjustments.

Models, worked examples, sentence construction, and answer-generating scaffolds belong in teaching or rehearsal. Remove answer-generating support for the assessed attempt; retain only documented access support that preserves the standard.

Separate Short Course, Duke, UAS and PEQ mapping

One authentic project may generate evidence for PEQ, an ASDAN Short Course, Junior/Young Duke, or AQA UAS only where it separately meets each framework's current requirements. No framework's completion, hours, certificate, unit code, or credit transfers automatically to another.

Do not infer AQA UAS codes or achievement from the SOW label. Use the exact current unit selected by the centre and its separate assessment process.

Inherited SOW accreditation cells are preserved below as exact planning-source text. They are not automatically safe learner-facing claims and must pass the current-route check before use.

Evidence, privacy and claims guardrails

The HTML stores no pupil response. A photo alone is not evidence of understanding. Adult support is recorded separately from pupil authorship. Evidence status is not a grade. Supported / Standard / Stretch are movable routes, not identities. There is no upload quota or evidence debt.

Preparation checklist
