Upgraded Scheme of Work · Autumn 1 (8 weeks) · Trinity Arts Award Explore (supported) · AQA UAS 'Creating artwork'
How can pupils use professional studio habits — noticing, deciding, testing and curating — to turn their own place, Teesside, into resolved artwork they can talk about with evidence?
NOTICE → CONNECT → MAKE → BRIEF → CRITIQUE → RESOLVE → CURATE → SHARE & INFLUENCE
Each week retrieves a decision from the last and hands a specific decision forward. Week 8 turns a pupil's reflection into a real recommendation a named adult acts on and reports back — the loop is paid, and the unit closes.
Matt hand-built these as a coherent, place-rooted 12-section Explore suite with a bespoke Teesside industrial palette (steel, oxide, foundry, river), a real Lundy loop and a deliberately light, tier-appropriate engine. This upgrade layers the house system on top without altering a line of his authored content:
Left deliberately untouched: his engine, his per-week visual explainers, his Calm Mode, and his Teesside palette. The engine is lighter than the Silver suite by design — no sorts or retrieval quizzes — which is the right pitch for Explore-supported pupils, so none were added.
Progression is noticing, comparing, selecting with a reason, and fresh transfer — not volume of writing. Personal disclosure is optional; place knowledge is optional; visual attention is the task. Every slide names access routes — pointing, circling, choice cards, speaking, typing or accurate scribing all count. Adult support and pupil authorship are recorded separately. The Lundy loop closes with a report-back contract a named adult must honour.
The four zone positions are mapped onto Matt's Teesside industrial palette: SPACE steel · VOICE oxide · AUDIENCE river · INFLUENCE foundry. Positions are identical to every pathway (Space → Voice → Audience → Influence), so the loop reads the same everywhere; the Teesside palette keeps this suite unmistakably of its place.
BUILD entry = notice, try, select with support; BUILD secure = compare alternatives and explain one decision; GROW reach = compare for an audience, adapt, and transfer the routine to a new image, material, audience or display problem.

A trained Arts Award adviser must audit the complete personal arts log against the current Explore requirements before confirming any qualification claim. Artsmark is whole-setting development, not an individual pupil award. Add locally approved, credited Teesside reference images and verified practitioner/organisation sources before teaching. These lessons prepare and evidence the practice; they do not self-certify the award.
