Colours distinguish two chromosome identities, not maternal/paternal homologues. This is not a real human chromosome count.

Mention DNA appears uncondensed in interphase; rods here track information and are not a microscope view. A copied X-shaped chromosome has two sister chromatids. Replication doubles DNA amount, not the chromosome number counted by centromeres at that moment.

We do · Control the cell-cycle model

The sequence advances only by pupil control. Prophase/metaphase/anaphase/telophase appear in order; the activity checks selected frame identity and invariant replication timing.

I do · Read the chromosome evidence

Prophase image is an early snapshot and may retain nuclear boundary; explain its breakdown across prophase. Avoid equating a drawn X with two chromosomes before separation. Molecular detail and phase durations omitted.

We do · Count information, not just shapes

“Genetically identical” describes the intended outcome barring mutation/error. No claim that all cells have identical sizes, functions or gene expression.

Independent · A new cell model

Fresh three-chromosome evidence. R is anaphase; copied sister chromatids have separated and count as chromosomes. Do not ask for a single misleading whole-cell chromosome count across all stages.

Require evidence-based explanation. The pupil may deliver a structured spoken answer with the diagrams in view.

Misconceptions

DNA copying is a mitosis stage. DNA replication happens in interphase before mitosis.

An X is always two chromosomes. Before sister separation it is one duplicated chromosome with two chromatids.

Mitosis alone splits the whole cell. Mitosis divides the nucleus; cytokinesis divides the cytoplasm.

Every body cell is exactly the same. Successful daughter cells receive the same genetic information; size, role and expression can differ.
