Five-minute briefing script

1. The big idea: Feedback is not finished when the adult speaks or writes. It is complete when the student can respond, the response is genuinely received and it changes what happens next.

2. Space first: Regulation, relationship, timing, communication and cognitive load determine whether feedback can land.

3. Voice follows the subject: It may be an edit, re-attempt, demonstration, second take, scenario answer or concept revisit.

4. R requires Audience: Never add R merely because a student wrote something. Read, hear or watch it and engage with it.

5. Influence means it mattered: The response may deepen learning or expose a misconception; either can change the next teaching move.

6. No marking theatre: If evidence exists only for the visitor, do not create it.
