Session promise, said out loud at the start: "Nothing in the next 25 minutes adds marking. Most of it removes marking. The one thing it protects is the R-gate."
Running order

| 0–3 | The book, not the slide | Open the real book. Show one chain: dated NS+, purple response, R. "This already exists. Tonight is about naming why it works and agreeing one rule." No theory yet. |
| 3–8 | The four words | Space, Voice, Audience, Influence — one sentence each, pointed at the chain in the book. Land the reframe: feedback isn't finished when the adult speaks; it's finished when the response is received and changes something. |
| 8–18 | Calibration game | Run the game on the screen, whole room voting by hand before each reveal. Let disagreements breathe — the argument between "not yet" and "no" IS the training. Do at least the first eight scenarios; skip ahead to the firewall one if time is tight. |
| 18–22 | The one rule | Agree it as a room: R only after genuine Audience. Everything else in the pack is guidance; this is the non-negotiable. Take questions on codes using the strip on the briefing sheet. |
| 22–25 | One lesson tomorrow | Each person names (to a partner, not the room) one lesson tomorrow and what Space, Voice, Audience and Influence will look like in it. Hand out the five-minute briefing on the way out. Done. |

| "This is more marking with extra steps." | It's less. Written feedback becomes strategic, not routine; VF doesn't need recording; the only new discipline is not writing R until it's true. |
| "My subject doesn't work in books." | Correct — that's why there are ten subject guides. A watched re-attempt in PE is a complete loop with zero writing. Your dialect is in your guide. |
| "What about pupils who won't respond?" | Triage first: can't-yet, won't-now, or can't-this-way. Each has a different move, and none of them is "mark harder". See the SEND overlay. |
| "Is this for Ofsted?" | Deliberately not — nothing here is made for inspection, and under the renewed framework that's precisely what makes it strong evidence. |
Facilitator's own R-gate: the session has worked only if staff can state the one rule unprompted a week later. Ask three people, casually, next Friday. That's your Audience.
