Meet an Artist

One fact · One feeling

🖼️🔍💡❤️🗣️

Today is a hands-on lesson — we learn by doing.

ARRIVAL TASK · do now, no help needed

Fact or feeling? Sort the responses

Tap a card, then tap where it belongs. Have a go — wrong answers are welcome here.

While you wait: three artworks are on the screen — decide which one YOU keep looking at.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE

LO: To find out about one artist and share a fact and a feeling.

I can tell a fact from a feeling.
I can research one artist with videos and images.
I can record one fact and one feeling in my log.
Success criteria: By the end you will have researched an artist together as a class, chosen your own from the picture-supported menu — including a texture/installation artist and a light artist — and completed your log frame: facts stuck, feeling recorded. This is Part C evidence (AQA UAS ‘Creating artwork’).
Going for Grow: add one opinion: do YOU rate them — and why? Opinions with reasons are the top of this ladder.
STARTER · talk task

Which one speaks to you?

Three very different artworks fill the screen. Look at all three properly. Which one keeps pulling your eyes back? Point at it — then try to point at WHY: a colour, a shape, a feeling.

Sentence stems:
“My eyes keep going back to…”
“I think it’s the…”
“It makes me feel…”

Facts and feelings — an art response needs both

📌 Facts

Things that are TRUE about the artist: born where, works with what, made which piece. Facts you can stick, copy or point to.

❤️ Feelings

What the work does to YOU: calm, excited, curious, homesick. Feelings can’t be wrong — they’re yours.

🎬 Research fast

Short videos and BIG images beat long text every time. Watch, look, pause — the facts float to the top.

📓 The log frame

One artist, facts stuck in, feeling recorded — spoken feelings scribed or voice-noted count in full. That page is Part C.

Misconception: “There’s a right way to feel about art.” Your feeling IS your answer — art responses can’t be wrong, only unexplained. Add your “because” and your feeling becomes bulletproof evidence.
WE DO · together on the board

Sort the responses — FACT or FEELING?

HANDS-ON · the main event

Meet your artist 🖼️

Ground rule (60 seconds): every artist on the menu is somebody’s favourite — we respond honestly and respectfully, and “not for me, because…” is a legal answer.

Station 1 · WATCH & LOOK

Research one artist together: short video, big images, pauses to point and react. Collect facts as a class — call them out as you spot them.

Station 2 · CHOOSE & LOG

Pick YOUR artist from the picture-supported menu — a texture/installation artist and a light artist are in there. Stick your facts into the log frame; record your feeling (voice counts).

Station 3 · SHARE A FACT

Tell your fact to a partner or the TA. One fact, said out loud, lands the whole week.

Going for Grow: the opinion line: “I rate / don’t rate this artist because…” — honest, reasoned, yours.
EVIDENCE · Arts Award Explore log · Part C (arts inspiration) · AQA UAS ‘Creating artwork’

Capture your evidence

Your artist log page is the evidence — TA checks facts are stuck and the feeling is captured (voice-notes count):

My name:

My artist and one fact about them:

One feeling their work gives me:

Skills I used today (tick with your TA): Ability to learn · Communication · Creativity

Feedback loop: your teacher will deep-mark one part of this in dark green and draw a Yellow Box. Next lesson you respond inside it in a coloured pen of your choice.
