One artist, one long look

One artist’s work fills the big screen — an artist celebrated this Black History Month. Look properly, longer than feels normal. What stands out? Say it or point at it — a shape, a colour, a texture, a feeling.

Artists steal with their eyes first: what SHAPE, what TEXTURE, what MOOD is doing the work in this piece?

🤏 Borrow ONE

One idea only — a zigzag, a colour pair, a texture trick. Borrowing one idea and making it yours is inspiration. Taking the whole thing is copying.

Your Week 3 plan is the boss: your idea, your materials, your technique — with the borrowed idea worked in where it fits.

Misconception: ~~“Being inspired by another artist is cheating.”~~ Every artist borrows — it is how art moves through time. Borrow ONE idea, credit the artist, make it your own. Copying the whole piece is the only cheat in the room.

Ground rule (60 seconds): messy hands, protected work: aprons on, respect every half-made piece — including your own.

Station 1 · SCRAP TRY

Try the borrowed idea on scrap first — the zigzag, the colour pair, the texture trick. Thirty seconds of scrap saves your real piece.

Station 2 · MAKE

Build your identity piece from your Week 3 plan, borrowed idea worked in. Texture, pattern and material routes stay fully open — the plan you wrote is the only boss here.

Station 3 · STAGE PHOTOS

Photograph start, middle and where you got to. Then point to the part you’re most proud of — say why if you want, pointing alone counts.

Going for Grow: write or say the credit line: “I borrowed ___ from ___” — artist named, idea named.
