Plan: This Is Me
Idea · Materials · Technique
🪞📋🎨🧵💡
Today is a hands-on lesson — we learn by doing.
ARRIVAL TASK · do now, no help needed
Sort the plan parts — idea, materials or technique?
Tap a card, then tap where it belongs. Have a go — wrong answers are welcome here.
While you wait: tell your partner one colour, texture or object that feels like YOU.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE
LO: To plan my identity artwork and choose my materials.
✓ I can pick images, words and textures that feel like me.
✓ I can complete a plan: what I’ll make, materials, technique.
✓ I can say one thing my piece will show about me.
Success criteria: By the end you will have chosen your “this is me” cards, completed a picture-supported plan page — idea, materials, and the textures, patterns and colours that mean something to you — and told the TA one thing your piece will say. The plan goes in your Explore log (AQA UAS ‘Creating artwork’).
Going for Grow: name the Week 2 skill your plan uses — a plan that spends a levelled-up skill is a strong plan.
STARTER · talk task
What makes you YOU?
With your partner: if someone had to guess things about you from three objects, which three would you choose? Interests, places, colours, textures — anything counts, and you choose how much to share.
Sentence stems: “People could tell I ___ from…” “A colour that feels like me is…” “I’d keep ___ private, and that’s fine.”
Stuck? Start with interests — a ball, headphones, a controller, a lead for the dog. Identity art can be about what you LOVE, not secrets.
I DO · teacher explains
A plan is three choices, made on purpose
💡 The idea
What is your piece ABOUT? One honest idea beats five vague ones — your team, your music, your calm place, your dog.
🧵 The materials
Cardboard, foil, wool, clay, paper, paint, screen — chosen because they FIT the idea. Rough idea? Rough textures. Calm idea? Smooth and cool.
🎨 The technique
ONE technique from your tasters — ideally the one you levelled up in Week 2. A plan that uses a practised skill is a plan that works.
🔣 Symbols
A symbol is a thing that STANDS FOR something — a boot for football, a wave for calm. One good symbol can carry a whole piece.
Misconception:“A plan locks you in — you can’t change it later.” A plan is a springboard, not a cage. Artists change plans constantly — the plan’s only job is to get you STARTED with materials in your hands next week.
WE DO · together on the board
Sort the plan parts — IDEA, MATERIALS or TECHNIQUE?
The idea is what it’s ABOUT. Materials are what you’ll USE. The technique is HOW you’ll work them. About, use, how.
HANDS-ON · the main event
Build your plan 📋
Ground rule (60 seconds): your piece shares exactly as much of you as you choose — interests count fully, and nobody has to put private things in art.
Station 1 · THIS IS ME CARDS
From the card table, pick THREE image, word or texture cards that feel like you. Trust the quick pull — the cards you reach for first usually know.
Station 2 · THE PLAN PAGE
Complete the picture-supported plan: what I’ll make / materials / the textures, patterns and colours that mean something to me. Scribing counts; choices are yours.
Station 3 · TELL ONE THING
Tell the TA one thing your piece will say about you. “It shows I love the beach” is a complete answer.
Going for Grow: add the skill line: “my plan uses my levelled-up skill of ___” — connecting Week 2 to Week 4.
EVIDENCE · Arts Award Explore log · plan page · AQA UAS ‘Creating artwork’
Capture your evidence
Your plan page is the evidence — TA photographs it into the log. Then complete (scribing counts):
My name:
My piece will be about:
Materials and technique I chose:
Skills I used today (tick with your TA): Creativity · Planning · Independence
Feedback loop: your teacher will deep-mark one part of this in dark green and draw a Yellow Box. Next lesson you respond inside it in a coloured pen of your choice.
