What counts as art?

With your partner: is a print art? A clay pot? A pattern pressed into fabric? A design on a screen? Where does “art” stop — and who decided?

🖨️ Print & mark-making

Rollers, stamps, ink, bold marks. If you like pressing, rolling and seeing a result FAST — this door is yours.

✂️ Collage & texture

Cutting, ripping, layering — paper, fabric, foil, wool. Texture, pattern and material are full routes into art, equal to any pen or brush.

🏺 Clay & digital

Clay thinks through your hands; digital lets you undo forever. Opposite feels, both real art.

📓 The Explore log

Arts Award Explore wants proof you TOOK PART and NOTICED: a photo plus one comment per week. Spoken comments count — an adult can scribe them.

Misconception: ~~“You have to be good at drawing to be an artist.”~~ Drawing is ONE door into art — printing, collage, clay, texture and digital are others, just as real. Today you try five doors and nobody grades the drawing.

Ground rule (60 seconds): every route is a real route — texture, pattern and material count exactly the same as pens and brushes, and nobody’s taster gets laughed at.

Station 1 · THE CAROUSEL

Move round all five stations — printing, collage, clay, mark-making, digital. Texture, pattern and material ways-in are on every table. Have a real go at each; one photo per station.

Station 2 · LEVEL CHECK

Place your token on the technique that felt best in your hands. Say one word about why — “squishy”, “fast”, “calm” all count.

Station 3 · OPEN THE LOG

Start your Arts Award Explore log: stick in your best taster photo and add one comment. Say it and have it scribed, or write it — both count in full.
