Retrieval Quiz

Arrival Task – What Do You Already Know?

1. Statement (Last week)

Say your challenge sentence.

Own answer.

2. Jobs (Recall)

Name three creative jobs.

Muralist, designer, curator, technician, printer, tattooist…

3. Routes (Recall)

Name one route into creative work from here.

College, apprenticeship, commissions, technical roles…

4. Why (Think)

Why does Silver include careers research?

Practice lives in a real world of work — pathways make it navigable.

Starter

Starter: The Ecosystem Around the Easel

Key Question: Between an artwork and its audience stands an ecosystem: curators, technicians, printers, funders, teachers. Your challenge sits inside it — who in it could you learn from THIS week?

The Makers

Artists, muralists, ceramicists

The Technical

Printers, framers, fabricators

The hidden layer

The Connectors

Curators, educators, producers

The Enablers

Funders, venues, commissioners

The money layer

Pairs: which LAYER does your challenge most need to understand? One reason each.

I Do

I Do: Instrumental Research

Key Idea: Silver 1D research is a tool: every question must pay its way into the challenge. Question → source → finding → 'so my work will…'.
Step 0 of 4

The paying question

Mine: 'How do working painters control large washes?' — it pays because Week 3 IS large washes. A question about fame wouldn't pay.

Source + finding

Practitioner interview (sourced): boards not paper at scale, working flat, loaded-brush passes. Findings in MY words, source named.

The 'so' line

'So my series moves to mounted board and I work flat.' Research just changed the making. That line is 1D doing its job.

The pathway thread

Same research reveals the ROUTE: this painter came via a technician job. One pathway logged per source — careers research by accumulation, not poster.

We Do

We Do: Tap the Role

How it works: Tap each ecosystem role — what they actually do, and what your challenge could borrow from them. Found: 0/6

I Do

I Do: The Pathways Dossier

Key Idea: One page holds 1D: three sourced findings with 'so' lines, two named routes from HERE, one honest fit-note about you.
Step 0 of 3

Findings block

Three question→source→finding→so rows. Each 'so' changes Week 3 or Week 4 — instrumental, provably.

Routes block

Two real routes from this postcode toward the relevant layer: the college course (named), the technician apprenticeship (named). First steps findable from this room.

The fit-note

'The technical layer fits how I work — diagnosis over performance.' Honest self-placement, not aspiration theatre. Assessors trust fit-notes that admit doubt.

We Do

We Do: Match the 1D Element → Its Test

Step 1: Tap a card, then its partner. Step 2: Watch the WAGOLL write itself. Score: 0/6

Independent Work

Independent Work — Studio Time

Instructions: Work at your level. Evidence photos go in your Arts Award portfolio — your pathways dossier + the practice-informs-challenge note (Unit 1D). Then complete the Artist Decision Matrix — research only counts when it changes something.

Supported

Task: Dossier with the frame: two question→finding→so rows from the source pack + one named local route + one named arts organisation and what it does.

Steps: Questions that pay · findings in your words · the 'so' lines written.

Standard

Task: Full dossier: three sourced rows with 'so' lines, two named routes with first steps, one arts organisation (who they are, what they commission or show), the fit-note.

Steps: Instrumental throughout · routes real + local · fit honest.

Stretch

Task: Dossier + the ecosystem map for YOUR challenge: every role AND arts organisation your finished, shared series touches, annotated with what each would ask of it.

Steps: All Standard · map drawn · each role's question answered or flagged · one role you'll consult before Week 4.

Lundy Loop

Lundy Loop — Your Voice in the Studio

Why: Article 12 — your view on this work counts, and it changes what the studio does next.

🚪 SPACE

Research routes are yours: source-pack table, careers shelf, the call/em‑ail corner for approved outreach — self-directed entirely.

📣 VOICE

One paying question gets sent OUT this week — to a practitioner, venue or course contact (approved list). Questions travel; answers return.

👥 AUDIENCE

Dossiers join the studio careers library beside Bronze's files — written for next year's Silver class as much as the adviser.

⭐ INFLUENCE

The routes you name build the studio's live pathways board — and the most-requested contact becomes Week 4's invited voice if diaries allow.
