Teesside Art Studio Suite · Bronze Arts Award

Progress SoW · Arts Aut 1 · 2026–27 · GROW · Week 4🎨 Bronze Part B · Arts Event Audience
Enquiry: How does encountering art as an audience member change what I notice, value or question?

Success looks like

  • I can take part in an arts event as an audience member
  • I can capture what I saw, heard and felt
  • I can review it with reasons, not just ratings
Aspire · LAUNCH reach: connect one thing from the event to your own practice.

    Retrieval Quiz

Arrival Task – What Do You Already Know?

    1. Practice (Last week)

Read your reflection line from the log.

    Own answer.

    2. Events (Recall)

Name one place you could experience art as an audience.

Gallery, gig, mural walk, theatre, screening, craft fair…

    3. Look (Recall)

Name the four analysis moves from Explore.

    Content, form, process, mood.

    4. Feel (Think)

Is 'I didn't like it' allowed in a review?

    Yes — with a because.

    Starter

Starter: Prepare To Be the Audience

Key Question: An arts event — gallery, gig, mural walk or screening — lets you look as an audience member. Until an actual experience is arranged, use this as preparation. What might you notice through a maker’s eyes?

    I Do

I Do: Capturing an Event Without Losing It

Key Idea: The capture sheet works in the moment: three specifics, two reactions, one question, one overheard — before the exit doors.
    Step 0 of 4

    Three specifics

Named works/moments, not vibes: 'the corner mural's scale', 'the drummer's cracked cymbal sound', 'the print room smell'. Specifics survive; vibes evaporate.

    Two first reactions

Honest and timestamped: 'gut-pulled by the red room; bored by the video piece.' First reactions are DATA, not verdicts — verdicts come later.

    One question + one overheard

'How long did the mural take?' + the kid behind me: 'it looks like our street.' The crowd's receiving is part of the event.

    The photo discipline

Two photos max (where permitted), both of DETAILS you'll reference — a camera roll of everything is a capture of nothing.

    I Do

I Do: From Capture to Review

Key Idea: The review = intention represented, experience evidenced, verdict earned, transfer named. Four short paragraphs; the capture sheet feeds all four.
    Step 0 of 4

    Represent the intention

'The show puts industrial Teesside at gallery scale…' — what it's TRYING to do, fairly, before any judging.

    Evidence the experience

My specifics + reactions: the red room's pull, the video's drag — each tied to a feature that caused it.

    Earn the verdict

Taste separated from craft: 'Not to my taste, superbly made' is a legal verdict. So is the reverse — with evidence.

    Name the transfer

'The mural's 20× dry-brush licenses my A3 push.' One line connecting their work to YOUR practice — Part B feeding Part A.

    Independent Work

    Independent Work — Studio Time

Instructions: Work at your level. If no actual arts experience is available: use practice material as preparation and keep that label. Staff check the current EVENT_SLOT before delivery. An online exhibition is a valid audience experience when actually undertaken. A recording or research alone remains preparation. Keep the real capture sheet and review, plus evidence that the pupil’s views were shared with at least one other person. The adviser checks all Part B requirements; this lesson does not declare completion.
    20:00

    Supported

Task: Complete the capture sheet at/from the event (3 specifics, 2 reactions, 1 question, 1 overheard) + the framed mini-review.

Steps: Sheet at the event · review from the frame · verdict with one because.

    Standard

Task: Full four-paragraph review from your capture sheet: intention, evidence, earned verdict, named transfer.

Steps: Intention fair · evidence tied to causes · taste/craft separated · transfer feeds Part A.

    Stretch

Task: Review + the audience study: what the crowd's receivings (incl. your overheard) suggest about who this event serves — and one line the curators should hear.

Steps: Full review · the crowd data read honestly · the curator line prepared to share with an agreed listener; any onward sending needs an agreed recipient and permission.

    Lundy Loop

Lundy Loop — Your Voice in the Studio

Why: Article 12 — your view on this work counts, and it changes what the studio does next.

    🚪 SPACE

Use an actual arts experience when arranged, following the setting’s rules. Until then, practise your capture choices in class and label the work preparation.

    📣 VOICE

Choose a question from your sheet. Ask it through an available route, or keep it ready until a person can respond. Record only a reply you actually receive.

    👥 AUDIENCE

After an actual arts experience, share your views with at least one other person and keep evidence. Staff must agree any onward contact with an artist or venue; no request to receive work is assumed.

    ⭐ INFLUENCE

You can choose a point you want a listener to understand. Record what was shared and any response that really happened. A change at a venue is not promised.
