Key Idea: Independent doesn't mean unplanned: the first ten minutes set subject, sequence, and the fallback — logged before the first mark.

Watch: '10:05 — rust gate study, relief print + watercolour wash, print first because the wash must sit over dry ink.' Subject, processes, ORDER, reason. Ninety seconds of writing that steers an hour.

Sequence the handshake

Two processes must shake hands: print dries WHILE I mix washes — dead time becomes prep time. Sequencing is where independence shows.

The fallback named

'If the second pull fails: single print + heavier wash.' Plan B written BEFORE trouble — calm is a decision made early.

First mark within ten

Log closed, hands on. The log reopens only when a real decision happens — it serves the work, never replaces it.

Key Idea: A good log reads like a pilot's: time, decision, reason. Three entries can carry a whole session's thinking to the assessor.

'10:40 — kept the mis-register ghost; it doubles the gate and serves the spine (texture).' Time, decision, reason — one line.

Log the borrowed

Influences get entries too: methods stolen, advice taken. Logged influence is integrity; silent influence is drift.

Close with the reflection line

Session end: 'Developed: wash-over-print handshake. Next: same handshake at A3.' The log's last line is next session's first thought.

Independent Work — Studio Time

Instructions: Work at your level. Logging counts either way: write the time-decision-reason line, or record a 15-second voice memo on the tablet and transcribe it after. A spoken log is a real log — do not stop mid-pour to write. Evidence photos go in your Arts Award portfolio — the challenge outcome + your decision log (Part A's centrepiece evidence).

Task: Run the challenge with the log frame: opening entry (from the sentence starters), two mid-entries, the reflection line.

Task: Full independent session: opening entry with sequence reason, worked outcome, 3+ logged decisions incl. any borrowed method, reflection line.
