Success criteria — tick when you can do it

I can state the key features of consent. I can explain why what happened to Aimee was wrong and unlawful. I can give two reasons why someone might react the way Aimee did.

The 5 features of consent

Key vocabulary

Word	What it means
Consent	Freely agreeing to something, and meaning it.
Freely given	A real choice — no pressure, fear or tricks.
Informed	You know what you're actually agreeing to.
Enthusiastic	A clear, willing yes — not just going along with it.
Specific	Agreeing to one thing isn't agreeing to everything.
Reversible	You can change your mind at any time.
Bodily autonomy	Your right to decide what happens to your own body.
Minimising	Playing something down — e.g. joking it 'wasn't a big deal'.
Trauma response	How the body/mind reacts to shock — e.g. freezing, or feelings coming later.
Bystander	Someone who is present and sees what happens.

The scene in four steps

On the bus: a man behaves in a sexual way towards Aimee without her permission. She is shocked and freezes.
Straight after: she acts as if nothing happened and makes a joke of it.
Telling Maeve: Maeve takes it seriously and encourages her to report it.
Later: the impact shows — Aimee is frightened and anxious about getting on buses.

Revision prose

Key distinction: a clear, willing "yes" is consent. Silence, freezing or going along out of fear is NOT consent. No words spoken does not mean agreement.

Memory hook: "No clear yes = no consent."

Common mark-losers: writing only "she didn't say yes" without explaining why that matters; assuming a calm or joking reaction means no harm was done.
