📋
🥾
🧭
📝

Learning Objective

Document what I have done across the 5 Trekker walks against the 6 AQA outcomes.

Name the 6 AQA outcomes for Walking
Match my walks to the outcomes
Write evidence statements using Where · When · What
Get my evidence sheet signed by staff
Success criteria: Foundation — tick + 1 word · Middle — tick + 1 sentence · Higher — tick + detailed evidence + 1 line reflection.
Arrival Task · 4 min

Settle & recall — what did we do?

Quietly. One word answers fine. We will share.

① 🥾 The Rec

What was the FIRST walk we did called?
(Hint: short, local, recce-style)

💡 It's our school's nearest green space.

② 🧭 What was different about the 2nd walk?

The Rec walk… with ____________.
(Hint: a tool with a needle that points north.)

③ ⛰️ Where did we go up?

"________ Hills to the Top." Fill in the blank.

④ 🌊 The big coastal walk

South Gare to ___________ car park.
(Hint: 🚻 + 🍦 at the end)

Why do we need evidence?

Discuss

  • How would AQA know we actually walked up Eston Hills?
  • What's the difference between "I did it" and "Here's the proof"?
  • Why does it matter that YOU wrote the evidence, not just staff?

Sentence starters

  • "AQA would know because…"
  • "The proof I did it is…"
  • "Me writing it shows…"
Evidence = a piece of paper with your words that links what YOU did to what AQA wants.

The 6 AQA Walking Outcomes

Listen first. Don't write yet. These 6 things are what AQA asks every walker to show.

  1. O1 — Equipment. Show that you wore/brought the right clothing & kit for walking.
  2. O2 — Plan a route. Show that you helped plan a walk using a map.
  3. O3 — Hazards. Show that you identified hazards along the route.
  4. O4 — Compass. Show that you used a compass to find direction.
  5. O5 — Complete a walk. Show that you safely completed a walk of a sensible distance.
  6. O6 — Reflect. Show that you can think back on the walk — what went well, what you'd change.
Memory hook: EPHCR — Equipment · Plan · Hazards · Compass · Complete · Reflect. Six words. Six outcomes. You did them all.

MCQ: Which walk gives the strongest evidence for O4 Compass?

How to write a good evidence statement

Three things every statement needs — W·W·W

✅ Strong example (O4 Compass):
"On the Rec with Compasses walk, I used a compass to find that the gate at the rec was North-East of where we started. I wrote the bearing on my sheet."
❌ Weak example: "I used a compass." — Where? When? What did you DO with it?
We Do · 6 min

Write one together — O3 Hazards

Pick a walk where you spotted hazards. Build the sentence as a class using Where · When · What.

Build the statement

Where: _________________________________________________

When: _________________________________________________

What I did: ____________________________________________

What hazards I spotted: __________________________________

Try: "On the South Gare → Majuba walk on Tues 16 June, I spotted 3 hazards — cyclists on the promenade, loose sand in the dunes, and a road crossing into Majuba car park. I called them out so the group could see them."
Aspire: Higher tier — add the action you took for each hazard (called out / waited / stepped aside).

YOUR evidence — for all 5 walks

Pen on. Sheet out. Use your printed pack. Aim for 1 strong evidence statement per outcome.

Foundation — your job

  1. For each of the 6 outcomes, TICK which walks gave you evidence.
  2. For each outcome, write 1 word or 1 short phrase as your proof.
  3. Sign your sheet. Get staff to sign too.
Scaffold word bank: coat · boots · map · hazards · compass · bearing · north · finished · enjoyed · would change.

Middle — your job

  1. Tick all the walks that gave you evidence on each outcome.
  2. For EACH of the 6 outcomes, write 1 full sentence using Where · When · What.
  3. Star your strongest evidence walk (the one you'd point AQA to).
  4. Sign your sheet.
Sentence frame: "On the ___ walk on ___, I ___, which shows I can ___."

Higher — your job

  1. Tick the grid, then write 2 sentences per outcome — the evidence + the SKILL it shows.
  2. Add a 1-line reflection per outcome (what got harder/easier across the walks).
  3. Identify your "showcase walk" (the one that hits the most outcomes).
  4. Be ready to explain ONE outcome aloud to the class next lesson.
Aspire: Higher pupils may be selected to model their evidence sheet for the AQA moderator.
Exit Ticket · 3 min

Quick check

  1. Name 2 of the 6 AQA outcomes.
  2. What 3 things does every evidence statement need? (W · W · W)
  3. Which walk is your showcase walk (hits the most outcomes)?
  4. Have you signed your evidence sheet? ☐
  5. Has staff signed it? ☐
